Fashion Essentials For A City Life

Life in the city absolutely needs staple pieces. These are the ideas that you fall back to when you realize your original planned outfit is too much and too painful.

I roll out of bed each morning starting at 5am and end back home at 10 or 11pm. Here are some of the essentials I have learned to love and worship:

“Doctor” Level Boots

Doc Marten Vegan Flora Chelsea Boots

Doc Martens are known to be one of the comfiest, most long-lasting pair of boots you can own. The Chelsea boot is versatile and the vegan component makes it easier to break in compared to the regular boot. Breaking them in is hell, but worth it in the long-run!

Cotton or Linen Tops

Humidity is something I am still learning to live with here in the city. One minute its cool, the next its pouring and sticky. Having a simple, 100% cotton top can be a lifesaver on those long, packed train rides home after a surprise rainfall. Linen is great for this too.

Fabletics High-Waisted Mesh PowerHold® Capri

Big city or small town, black leggings are everyones go-to. The pockets on this Mesh PowerHold Capri just makes things even more convenient for you.

Breathable Clothing

Because changing from wearing flats on the streets to heels in the office doesn’t help you with anything. Especially if you work in retail and not in a nice, little office.

NYC Style: What They Don’t Tell You

I moved to *insert cheesy name for NYC here* in January of 2017. It has been a year and a half of me attempting to adapt to the New York fashion scene, and I must say, LOL.

I’ve spent most of my life in the basic, suburban life that Sacramento, California offers. I ‘d like to think that for most of my high school years, I was a real-life Harper, from Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place. That’s why when I got accepted into the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, I knew my closet was ready for its next chapter in life.

Fast forward to today, I’m here to tell you I was wrong. I’m here to tell you that what you’ve seen, what you’ve been inspired by, is too painful to be a reality. Yes, there are some who — God bless their souls — can pull off heels in the humid, underground, subway stations. More realistically, though, no. Never. Ouch.

The saying “hoes don’t get cold” is nothing compared to the harsh reality of dressing fashionably in NYC. So, if you’re curious to know how to make fashion work in the comfiest way possible, make your life easy and follow my blog.
